Smelly fish party at Östra Gerum

I was back in Tidaholm for two days to meet youth that might be interested to apply for next CIU youth exchange.
Thursday night, the 9 of August, it was nice sunny and warm. Jonas invited us to this special Swedish tradition which is to eat this fish in a sandwish together with sliced potatoes and onion. The fish is not rotten as I first thought. It´s only fermented and it´s supposed to be healthy and most of all - delicious. I had never tried it before and had eaten some pasta before - not to be tooo hungry.. just in case I didn´t like it... David opened the can in a bucket of water to reduce the awful smell that comes out. Most of these parties takes place in the countryside where people don´t have close neighbours.

Ann was polite and said it was interesting..
Overall it was very nice to be in Tidaholm again. I met Elin, Else-Marie, Lisbeth and a lot of other well known faces. Not any other host families though which is a little sad. Friday the 10 of August it was the famous cray fish day. Children and their parents where fishing in Tidan. Most of the youth sat home during the day since the wheater wasn´t too good, but I am sure that the ones that are interested in going on exchanges will apply ... even from Tidaholm.

Om man inte tycker om surströmming men ändå vill äta det av någon anledning, så kan ett knep vara att lägga riktigt mycket lök i samma "klämma" (brödet). Då tar löksmaken över och man kan ändå stolt säga att man ätit surströmming.
